Skiing, cross-country skiing & winter hiking
Well groomed slopes, trails and paths offer perfect conditions for skiing, cross-country skiing, winter hiking and sledding. From the hotel you can reach the ski slopes within a few minutes. The cable car on the Ettelsberg and the Skirondell allow you to quickly change slopes. Skiers can enjoy 18 km of snow-covered slopes, the longest downhill run in the Sauerland region (2 km) and floodlit skiing. For cross-country skiing, winter hiking and snowshoeing use 100 km of groomed trails at altitudes from 580 to 843 m, divided into 15 routes.

Wonderful views over the Upland and unspoiled nature: Willingen captivates with its charming landscape at any time of the year. Explore the quality region Wanderbares Deutschland during a hike on natural, high-quality hiking trails or a leisurely covered wagon ride in convivial company. Or go biking: Well-signposted trails with a length of 18 to 240 km and up to 2,400 m altitude difference as well as challenging freeride and downhill trails offer incentives for every two-wheeler enthusiast - whether pleasure cyclist, family or sports fan.
Hiking region No. 1
Willingen is hiking region No. 1 - and therefore a particularly popular destination for a short or long hiking vacation. A quality feature of the numerous hiking trails is the naturalness. Together with the Sauerland Hiking Villages, Willingen was awarded the 1st Quality Region Wanderbares Deutschland by the German Hiking Association. The very good signposting with defined short-, medium- and long-distance destinations facilitate the orientation. Wonderful vantage points make even the rest a close-to-nature experience.
From the hotel you hike directly: Into the valley to the source of the Hoppecke, then up to the Hocheide, which shines in purple colors in its blooming season in late summer. In winter, snow-covered trees and the incomparable silence of the forest make hiking an unforgettable experience on groomed trails ranging from 3 to 20 km in length.

The Waldhaus am See is a Qualiätsgastgeber Wanderbares Deutschland and since autumn 2015 also a Qualitätsgastgeber Rothaarsteig. We are your competent contact for guided hikes and planning individual tours.
With Rothaarsteig and Uplandsteig two well-known hiking trails are very close to the hotel. If you hike the Rothaarsteig from the direction of Winterberg, keep in the direction of Hoppecketal from Langenberg. If you are coming from Brilon, turn off at the Richtplatz junction into the road in front of the oaks. This will take you directly to our Waldhaus am See. We offer hikers a stopover or accommodation at the end of each stage.
Indoor activities
A little thrill?
Relaxation is good, but before that it should be action-packed? Visit the karting and bowling center to prove your skills as a racer. The steep walls in the climbing hall also provide thrills. With archery you can prove your concentration and accuracy. Throughout the year, the Willingen ice skating rink awaits passionate skaters. Also a challenging pleasure: a round of curling or ice hockey against other guests or fellow travelers.
Entertaining and educational
If you're in the mood for quiet or educational entertainment, try your hand at creating your own glass work of art under expert guidance at the Willingen Glass Manufactory or get to know the Willingen Brewery during a brewery tour. You can learn how slate was mined and processed just a few decades ago during a guided tour of the Christine mine. The Milchmuhmuseum displays interesting exhibits related to milk, and in the Curioseum you will discover bizarre and curious exhibits on two floors. In case of bad weather, the Willingen cinema awaits your visit with current blockbusters.
Further activities
Head up high on the Skywalk Willingen. With your heart pounding and feelings of happiness, you cross the longest suspension bridge in Germany at a height of 100 meters over a length of 665 meters. You will be rewarded with spectacular views over the beautiful Sauerland.
Willingen offers vacationers even more activities: For example, how about a game on the adventure golf course at the viaduct or a visit to the wildlife and leisure park? The high ropes course and summer toboggan run are also popular excursion destinations - and not just for families. Regular concerts and theater performances in the spa garden and visitor center round off Willingen's diverse leisure activities.
By the way: you can also take a guided tour of the world's largest ski jump in summer and take the funicular from the outrun to the inrun tower. Every year, the Mühlenkopfschanze is in the spotlight as the venue for the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup.
